Is FARES a U.S. recognized nonprofit?

Yes- FARES is a U.S. nonprofit a 501(c)(3), a scientific research institution and public charity. FARES is the primary sponsor of the Mirador Basin Project, in northern Guatemala’s Peten region.

What tax benefits come from donating to FARES?

We recommend that you consult your attorney or tax advisor about how tax benefits may apply to your specific situation. Donations to FARES, a 501(c)(3) charity, are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. FARES's tax identification number is: 82-0486235.

Is FARES currently collaborating with other organizations?

Yes- the FARES foundation is committed to investigating and saving the Mirador Basin, and believes strongly in the spirit of working together for the greater cause! FARES is currently collaborating with the Guatemalan government, domestic & international corporations, the local Guatemalan communities, universities, international organizations and governments to ensure the preservation and protection of this exceptional area. Is Dr. Hansen available to be booked for talks and keynote addresses on the Mayans & Mirador Basin?

Yes- depending upon scheduling and availability. Dr. Hansen is one of the foremost experts on Maya culture and had served as keynote speaker on the topic many, many times from the World’s Fair in Shanghai and the Wild 9 to universities and private talks. His subject matter expertise and engaging talks make him a sought- after speaker- if you are interested in booking Dr. Hansen for an event, please contact info@fares-foundation.org “re: Speaking Event” with details of your event.

Is FARES affiliated with a religious or government organization?

FARES is a non-governmental organization and is completely non-denominational.

How can I get my company involved?

There are multiple ways in which to engage your company in the work of FARES. You can add FARES to your company's list of approved non-profit organizations. This enables employees to select FARES as the designate for their charitable giving, and to receive matching corporate donations. If your company has its own corporate foundation and you feel that our work aligns with their charitable goals, we would welcome an introduction. These are some of the more popular ways in which people choose to get their companies involved with FARES. If you have another idea, please let us know! Where can I find out about volunteer/internship opportunities with FARES?

Volunteer and internship opportunities are generally sent out through our eNews. If you are interested in getting involved, you can sign up to receive our updates by providing your email on the Stay Informed page, and be sure to list that you are interested in volunteering. FARES does not currently offer volunteer opportunities in the field.

How can I unsubscribe from FARES's emails?

If you wish to stop receiving our news updates via email, use the "unsubscribe" link located at the bottom of every email.

I am a FARES donor and I would like to report an address change.

To report your change of address, please write to info@fares-foundation.org . Be sure to include your name, your current address, and your former address.

How can I manage my account with FARES or notify you of a change of e-mail address?

You can update your email address and email preferences by clicking the links at the bottom of every email message from FARES. You can also send us an email at info@fares-foundation.org to update your information or change your email preferences.

Please feel free to include a link to www.fares-foundation.org on your site, although in most cases, we will be unable to create a reciprocal link on ours. Our internal linking policy requires a direct relation to the text on a particular page. We do not have a general links page.
